With a regular cleaning schedule, you can keep your office workers healthy and content. More productivity and fewer sick days are just a couple of benefits of a clean and organised office space.

In addition to looking unpleasant, a cluttered office can irritate coworkers and sap their motivation. With a printed office cleaning checklist, eMop can keep your workplace organised and spotless.

To keep your staff members healthy and the office looking its best, develop a cleaning schedule specifying when specific areas are to be cleaned and what chores need to be completed.

It will be easier to establish a standard of cleaning that suits your company’s specific requirements if you or your staff follow a well-thought-out office cleaning checklist.

What should a cleaning checklist include?

Office cleaning

All surfaces should be dusted, the floors should be vacuumed and mopped, the bathrooms should be cleaned, the rubbish and recycling should be emptied, high-touch surfaces should be disinfected, antibacterial treatments should be applied, and the space should be organised.

Paper towels and toilet paper should also be restocked. Daily, weekly, and monthly work should be carried out to complete these responsibilities.

How do you clean an office daily?

Office desks and cubicles

Make sure that the following procedures are taken to ensure that the workspace, including desks, cubicles, and shared work tables, is clean and orderly.

Remove dust from keyboards and clean computer screens

Empty rubbish and recycle the paper

Vacuum floors near and under desks and tables

Clean office windows

Clean up the areas that people contact

Dust surfaces such as desks, shelves, and others

Office kitchens

Professional office cleaning

To clean break rooms and office kitchens, follow the cleaning tasks given below:

Throw away food wrappers, expired perishables, and undesired food

Put clean dishes and cutlery away after cleaning them

Empty the recycling and rubbish

Remove any expired food from the refrigerator. Clean the refrigerator’s interior surfaces

Clear out old coffee grounds from the coffee maker

Clean and disinfect tables, counters, and other surfaces where people prepare and eat food

Tidy kitchen appliances and gadgets like the microwave oven

Check the water cooler to ensure there is water and cups available for everyone to use

Recreation and reception area

If your workplace has a front area or entrance ways where visitors are welcomed, you want to make sure it contributes to your ability to establish a positive first impression. Be sure to follow the cleaning tasks below to accomplish that.

Clean and organise the welcome desk at the office reception

Clean up any other desks, the tables in the waiting room, and other hardwood surfaces

Empty the recycling and waste bins

Make sure the water cooler contains water for visitors and replenish the water glasses there

Arrange any periodicals or books that have been left out for guests to peruse

Clean and dust the windows, the business sign, and other features that visitors first notice

Disinfect surfaces that people touch, like lights, phones, bells and call buttons, TVs, and more

Attempt to hoover the carpet in your office’s waiting and common rooms at least once every week.

Toilets and Bathrooms

Professional bathroom cleaning

Clean and sanitise the restrooms

Wash and sanitise the sinks

Clear the floor of debris before disinfectant-mopping it

Before disinfecting any hard surfaces, clean them off, and throw away paper towels and other waste that isn’t recyclable

Replace used paper towel and toilet paper rolls

Use glass cleaner to clean the mirror

Verify that all hand dryers are operational. Try troubleshooting, or if you are unable to resolve the issue, inform a repairman or maintenance expert

Weekly office cleaning checklist

Overall tidying of the office

Eliminate clutter: Put it back where it belongs, recycle it, or dispose of it. Cords can be kept neatly wound up using zip ties.

With a paper towel or damp rag, remove dust from public spaces. For difficult-to-reach areas like the crevices of your keyboard, use compressed air to blow away dust. Keep in mind the fan blades and light fixtures.

Smudges can be removed by spraying glass cleaner onto a towel.

Use a sanitising spray and a clean rag to wipe clean all hard surfaces. Take note of high-germ places like the buttons on the water fountains, microwave, and refrigerator, as well as the vending machines.

Cobwebs can be removed from the office’s corners with a rag. For those tall, challenging corners, mount the rag on the handle of a broom.

To make additional room, dispose of old food and beverages. No one loves to find takeaway that is two weeks old, so perhaps now is a good time to establish some fridge regulations.

Use soapy warm water to scrub dishes, glasses, and appliances. Check the cabinets for unnecessary clutter.

Toilet paper and soap dispensers should be refilled as well. Disinfect any hard surfaces and clean the mirror.

Recyclables and rubbish bags should be disposed of properly.

The floors should be cleaned of filth and debris. To clean under furniture, lift the couch cushions and relocate the pieces.

Cleaning of not-so-obvious places

Dust quickly accumulates on lamps and fixtures. Wipe them down with a duster or microfiber cloth.

Vents and ducts can be thoroughly cleaned using a hoover with a hose attachment.

Clean keyboards and mice with a disinfectant spray or wipes.

Light switches and door frames are regularly touched and are excellent places for viruses to propagate. To clean them, use a spray or wipe with disinfectant.

Regularly empty and clean rubbish cans to prevent odours and the growth of germs.

Walls can accumulate dust and grime over time even if they may not appear to be dirty. Clean walls down with a wet cloth or sponge.

Dust and allergens can be found in chairs and couches. To clean them, use a hoover attachment for upholstery.

Monthly office cleaning checklist

Cleaning high spaces and ceilings

Office cleaning

Dust light fixtures, ceiling fans, and other high surfaces with a long-handled duster or microfiber cloth. The tops of cabinets and shelves should also be dusted.

Look around light fixtures and along moulding for cobwebs. To sweep them away, use a hoover attachment or a broom.

Air vents and ceiling tiles can be cleaned with a hoover with an extension wand. Dust and debris that have gathered over time can be removed this way.

Check the ceilings and high areas frequently for indications of mould growth, water damage, or other potential problems.

Use safety precautions when cleaning high areas and ceilings, including using a stable ladder, donning non-slip footwear, and tying up loose items.

Dusting upholstery

Any loose rubbish or items, including papers, pens, or other office materials, should be taken out of the upholstery first.

If there is any loose dust or dirt on the surface of the upholstery, use a soft-bristled brush or a hoover with a brush attachment to remove it carefully.

Use a clean, damp cloth and a mild cleaning solution to spot clean any stains or spills that may have occurred on the upholstery.

All woven or material window coverings should be cleaned.

Tidy up the office boxes

Sort the office’s boxes by function or department once you have gathered all of them.

Anything old or no longer needed should be removed.

To get rid of any dirt or debris, hoover the boxes, or dust them with a microfiber cloth.

To maintain the boxes’ organisation and cleanliness, use storage options like shelves, cabinets, or office drawers.

Special attention to antibacterial treatment

antibacterial treatment

To decrease the spread of the coronavirus, the Health and Safety Executive constantly reviews and updates its cleaning, hygiene, and handwashing rules.

The HSE offers recommendations on how to make sure businesses safeguard employees and visitors against damage, including employing coronavirus prevention measures.

In order to prevent the spread of infections and ensure the safety of enterprises, recommendations include maintaining a healthier work environment and encouraging handwashing.

While Covid-19 limitations may no longer be in effect, employers should continue to examine policies to keep employees safe, care for employee welfare, and offer a respectful employment environment where staff can perform at their best.

Office cleaning supplies you need

To ensure the health and safety of your staff and guests, high-quality cleaning materials are essential. You must make the appropriate cleaning equipment investments in order to carry out efficient daily, weekly, and monthly office cleaning activities, maintain exceptional workplace hygiene, and do the job correctly.

Be sure any products you want to purchase are safe to use and appropriate for the surface or surfaces you’ll be cleaning before you buy them. To stock up, buy the following essential cleaning supplies:

Sanitising agent

Odour neutralizer

Rags for cleaning

Multiple-use cleaner

Window and glass cleaner

Furniture polish

Disinfecting wipes

Heavy-duty gas cleaner

Single-use cleaning product for bathrooms

Bleach for urinals and toilets

Dishwashing soap

Soap dispensers

Dispensing units for hand sanitizer

Carpet cleanser

Defrosting agent

How do I make an office cleaning schedule?

Professional cleaners

Determine the frequency of jobs and your office’s cleaning requirements to develop a timetable that works for you. Employees or the cleaning crew should be given particular cleaning duties or monthly cleaning tasks to do. The schedule should be constantly reviewed and updated as necessary.

Download our printable PDF cleaning checklist here to better organize the cleaning routine in the office.

Professional cleaning benefits

Lack of attention to workplace hygiene can have a significant negative impact on your company’s brand image, employee wellbeing, and facility standards. We are aware, nevertheless, that it’s not always easy to keep your working environment immaculate.

To maintain a clean workplace standard week after week, businesses need the proper cleaning supplies, knowledge, extra time on top of all other responsibilities, and expert skills.

You might want to think about hiring a registered cleaning service with the necessary knowledge, tools, and abilities to complete this operation for you in order to guarantee the elimination of germs and bacteria.

Employees can contribute by tidying up their workstations once the workday is done, but they might not be properly trained or knowledgeable enough to carry out deep cleaning in some places.

Here, hiring professional office cleaning services is more advantageous, because you can be confident that your staff and guests are safe.

Professional cleaners always have access to the most recent cleaning techniques, and are fully aware of the correct tools and chemicals to use in order to eliminate germs successfully. The cleaning will therefore be done correctly and to the highest standards, giving you and your staff peace of mind.

Identifying Mould vs Mildew

Mould, appearing in various colorings with a thicker texture, poses critical health risks and causes structural damage. Mildew, generally white or grey and powdery, is much less harmful and less difficult to treat. Recognizing their differences is vital for making use of suitable treatment methods and ensuring healthful surroundings.

What Is Mildew?

Mildew is a surface fungus, typically appearing as a white or grey patch, thriving in moist and heated areas, including the bathroom and kitchen. It’s much less dangerous than mould, but can cause unpleasant odours and degrade surfaces.

What Is Mould?

Mould is a pervasive fungal infection, generally manifesting as green or black damp patches. It grows in damp, poorly ventilated areas, emitting toxins that may be dangerous to human health.

How to remove mould on walls

Causes of Mould

Mould growth is on the whole fueled by condensation and too much moisture, which find their way onto cooler surfaces like windows, crevices, and secluded nooks, in particular, humid environments like the bathroom.

As moisture accumulates, it encourages the growth and appearance of mould spores, which can in no time colonise surfaces, embedding into porous elements and spreading swiftly. Drying clothes indoors is another subtle cause of mould in your house.

Safety Precautions

When removing mould, prioritising protection is important. Protective Personal Equipment (PPE) is important to guard oneself from direct exposure to harmful mould spores. This consists of carrying masks, long rubber gloves, and goggles to protect you from inhalation or skin contact.

Introduce containment for the affected region; mould will release mould spores, so you must keep them from spreading throughout the cleaning procedure. This can include sealing off the room or using plastic sheeting.

Using a spray bottle will make it quite easy and safer to apply cleaning solutions to the affected area. These steps are essential in keeping a secure environment whilst properly clearing off mould from walls.

Necessary Tools and Supplies

Start with deciding on the right mould removal solutions, such as anti mould paint, which are specifically designed to fight mould and are appropriate for the surface you are treating, whether it’s tile, wood, or drywall.

The kind of scrubbing tools you use is equally critical; opt for stiff brushes or scrubbers that can efficiently get rid of mould without damaging the underlying material.

To prevent the spread of mould spores and protect unaffected regions, use plastic sheets to seal off the work surface. This containment is vital in order to maintain the condition of the surrounding areas.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is non-negotiable. Rubber gloves, goggles, and masks are important, and it’s vital to observe the manufacturers’ recommendations before using them. These tools protect you from direct contact with harmful mould spores, as well as the chemical compounds used in mould elimination.

Step-by-Step Mould Removal

clean walls with white vinegar

When removing mould, first prepare the area: take out your equipment and cover the whole area to shield it from mould spores. Utilise specialised cleaners and pre-treat the surfaces to loosen the mould.

Carefully scrub the affected areas to eliminate all the mould without damaging the underlying surfaces. After thorough scrubbing, it’s critical to allow adequate drying time, ensuring the space is without moisture, which allows mould to flourish.

Prepare Work Area

Preparing the work area is the initial step in mould removal. Start by removing furniture and decorations from the targeted area to save you from contamination. Then, meticulously cover floors and surfaces with protective plastic sheets, making sure of a safe environment that allows effective and safe mould eradication, while safeguarding the encompassing space.

Remove Mould

Begin the process of removing mould by slightly moistening the affected walls, which helps loosen the mould. Put on personal protective equipment (PPE) to make sure you’re safe.

Utilise stiff-bristled brushes, moving in mild circular motions, paired with effective mould cleaning solutions to remove mould infestation. In cases of intense mould damage, wall replacement is probably vital. Always use a fresh, clean and damp cloth to avoid cross-contamination.

Once the cleaning is done, wipe dry the walls very well to eliminate any residual moisture, thereby decreasing the probability of mould recurrence. You can also apply anti mould paint to prevent future recurrence.

Stubborn Stains

Address persistent stains after preliminary mould cleanup with vinegar or commercial removers, adhering strictly to the manufacturer guidelines. These cleaning solutions fight stubborn residue, clearing the way for effective elimination.

Dry Surfaces

It is crucial to allocate enough time for surfaces to dry very well. This drying step is critical to ensure the complete removal of residual moisture, which, if left unchecked, could facilitate the regrowth of mould.

Natural/DIY Solutions

When it comes to removing mould, natural and DIY solutions are in high demand for their qualities such as safety, environmental friendliness, and effectiveness. Items like tea tree oil, baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, vinegar, and grapefruit seed extract aren’t only easy to find, but also kill mould because of their special properties like acidity, moisture absorption, antifungal, fungicidal, and antimicrobial traits.

Vinegar

Vinegar is known for its acidity, which enables it to break down mould structures and prevent mould growth, making it a super choice for natural mould cleansing. Its acetic acid content is effective as a mould killer without the poisonous fumes associated with artificial chemical-based cleaners.

Baking soda

Baking soda is widely known for its moisture absorption capabilities. It not only eliminates the moisture that mould flourishes on, but additionally acts as a mild abrasive, helping to wash away mould whilst deodorising the area, leaving surfaces smooth and free from odours.

Hydrogen peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide shines with its antifungal and antibacterial components, which effectively kill mould spores and floor moulds. Its bubbly action helps it to penetrate deeply, ensuring thorough eradication of mould, particularly in porous surfaces like tile grout.

Tea and grapefruit

Tea tree oil and grapefruit seed extract are recognised for their powerful antifungal and antimicrobial properties, serving as herbal fungicides that not only effectively act as a mould killer, but also prevent its recurrence.

Natural/Commercial Products

Tackle excessive mould troubles with effective commercial cleaners, produced with effective substances like ammonia, bleach, and enzymes, renowned for their ability to kill mould infestations.

Additionally, bear in mind wood cleaners for wooden surfaces, ensuring the selected product is strong and helps to eliminate mould, as well as safeguarding the integrity and appearance of the floor. These carefully selected solutions are crafted to kill mould infestations and stains, supplying a sturdy solution to mould challenges.

Natural/Prevent Regrowth

cleaning mould
To ward off black mould growing back, prioritising moisture management and enhancing air flow is crucial. Dehumidify to systematically minimise indoor humidity, and set up an environment that will not be conducive to mould survival.

Ensuring good airflow with the assistance of exhaust fans or open windows facilitates the elimination of wet air, which mould requires to thrive. Additionally, you can use an effective anti mould paint to prevent the growth and spread of the mould.

Moisture Control and Ventilation

Effective moisture control and air flow are crucial in retaining mould-free surroundings. Keeping indoor humidity levels beneath 50 percent is important; this will be possible when you dehumidify, which actively removes excess moisture from the air. Fix leaks without delay. This prevents moisture accumulation, a well-known cause of mould growth.

Enhancing airflow through the use of fans, making sure windows are always open, and putting in additional vents guarantees that rising damp air is correctly circulated and expelled. Insulating cold surfaces can help lower condensation, which is a major cause of mould growth.

Maintain Walls

Maintain the state of your walls by cleaning them thoroughly and getting rid of anything that can encourage mould growth. To prevent moisture buildup, be vigilant about identifying and sealing leaks, as well as controlling condensation.

Make sure that damp walls are sufficiently sealed to remove excess moisture from the outside.
It is also important to add that anti mould paint will help to maintain the state of both interior and exterior walls’ appearance and structure. For the floor, applying tile grout will also help to cover up spaces in between tiles.

By putting these precautions in place, walls will be resistant to mould growth, while maintaining their structural integrity and visual appeal.

Professional Services

With the knowledge and resources to handle these problems in a safe and efficient manner, specialised mould remediation services can guarantee complete eradication and accurate damage assessment.

Conducting this type of thorough investigation ensures that the mould remover you hire is capable of handling the intricacies of removing mould, especially when the mould is widespread, hidden, or could be causing health issues.

We have certified employees who can deal with big mould problems professionally and accurately. To achieve a mould-free situation in your homes or offices, you need eMop. For more information about our services, visit our website here.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the key techniques for mould cleansing emphasise prevention, powerful treatment, and daily maintenance. Employing a mixture of herbal remedies, commercial supplies, and expert services guarantees complete mould eradication.

Pay attention to moisture control, allow air to circulate, and maintain walls from time to time. These steps are paramount in preventing mould recurrence, securing a healthy and mould-free environment.

We all love our home when its sparkling clean – you just want to find your favourite spot to take in all that shine. What if you can keep it almost in this state longer? You can by regularly tidying and doing light cleaning (or refreshing touches), rather than a one-off deep cleaning.

Here are things you can do whilst at home during various times of the day to keep it clean longer:

In the morning

Keep home tidy for longer

When you wake up in the morning, make your bed. Leaving a tidy bed will have such a positive start to your day and coming home to a tidy room can feel even better at the end of a long day. Pick up your socks or items on the floor and make sure they are appropriately stored away.

When you take a bath or shower, rinse after yourself. By rinsing bathtub or shower with hot water, and if necessary, with a cleaning agent, you reduce the build-ups and stubborn stains that are later difficult to remove.

In the afternoon

Why not do some light tidying and 10 or 15 minutes of vacuuming. You can choose just one room to vacuum each day you’re home early afternoon. You can also add in days to mop the floors in the bathroom and kitchen.

By not exerting yourself too much, you are more likely to stick to the routine and make it a habit, so we strongly recommend taking it easy by making these chores as light as possible.

In the evening

cleaning routines for clean home

This is a time for relaxation and not for heavy lifting. We suggest focusing on chores like cleaning the dishes, wiping kitchen surfaces – this is really important in keeping rodents away – and cleaning any mess created after dinner.

You can also use this time to tidy the living area and to declutter any areas you notice items piling up.

When you have that extra time, whichever part of the day!

Take this time to get basic chores done, like laundry and ironing. Again, we recommend doing light work each time rather than all your laundry or ironing in one go. We want you to create habits and the best way to do that is by making your work as light as possible.

For the heavy work, leave it to the professionals

As for the heavy work and for times when cleaning is no longer light, but rather a hard work, leave it to professionals like eMop. Their cleaners do this on daily basis. They are highly trained to get the work done in the shortest possible time, with the best results. With a professional cleaner, you can’t go wrong and with eMop it gets even better. We offer bespoke cleaning service, so you get to design your cleaning needs by choosing the areas and spaces in your home that need cleaning.

Coming home to a clean environment and coming home to a mess can have a very different impact on your mind. When you come home to a clean place, you feel more relaxed and at ease. Entering a dirty place can induce opposite psychological effects – that of stress and uneasiness.

For a more relaxing evening in front of the telly, reading, or doing whatever you enjoy, make your home clean and tidy.

You are more likely to get more done

Clutter and dirt can be overwhelming for the mind, leading to disruptive and unsettled behaviour. In an environment that is clutter-free and restorative you are more likely to see with clarity and get more done. Psychologically you will be less anxious, and this will produce positive hormones that enable you to achieve your targets.

So, get your home into a tidy and clean state to get more out of your day/evening.

You sleep well

psychological benefits clean environment

Researches show that you are more likely to get a good night’s rest in a clean environment than a dirty one. A survey by the US National Sleep Foundation revealed that people who make their beds every morning are 19% more likely to get a good night’s sleep. 75% of the people surveyed also revealed they have a better sleep when their sheets are freshly cleaned as they feel more comfortable in their beds.

It appears cleanliness is essential to getting the perfect sleep. To have this perfect night’s rest, we advise you clean not only the sheets, but your entire room to create an environment that sets you at ease, so you can drift away into a beautiful dreamland.

You lose calories and feel better

Cleaning helps you to burn calories. You can burn between 100 to 200 calories an hour, depending on what you are doing. So instead of heading to the gym, head to the bathroom or kitchen and start scrubbing the dirt there, or for more calorie burns start vacuuming and/or mopping all the floors.

People who exercise are often in a better state of mind. They are more relaxed and have a positive image of themselves. Start cleaning to lose the calories and feel good.

You are more sociable

You are more likely to invite friends to a clean home than a messy place. Many people are put off from having friends around when their place is dirty. A dirty place can therefore limit your social interaction. Having friends and family around can put you into a better psychological state; thus start cleaning and tidying.

Plenty of studies show the health benefits of social interaction, from less stress and better memory (social interaction protects the brain from neurodegenerative diseases) to responding better to chemotherapy and living longer.

We all enjoy stepping into a clean shower and the best way to see it is through a clear, clean glass. Soap and water, particularly if you live in a region with hardwater, can easily stain your glass doors and ruin the perfect view of your shower.

Don’t despair, you can easily, and quickly, restore your glass doors to their original shine using natural products found in your home.

Do not let soap or hardwater accumulate overtime because it can also be unhygienic as bacteria and germs can gather.

Here, we give you simple recipes and tips that effectively remove hardwater and soap from your glass shower doors – and they’re all natural!

Reasons for dirty doors: hardwater and soap can accumulate on glass overtime if not cleaned.

Cleaning options:

Clean with white vinegar to remove hardwater and soap

clean glass shower doors

We’re huge fan of natural cleaning products, especially if they can easily be found in your home, and vinegar is one of our favourites. You can almost use vinegar for a lot of your cleaning chores. It’s effective and does no harm to your health, unlike some commercial cleaning products which contain a lot of harmful chemicals.

What you’ll need:

  • White vinegar
  • Bathroom (or multipurpose) squeegee
  • Sponge
  • Spray bottle
  • Washing up liquid

Method:

Pour a generous amount of the white vinegar – enough to cover the entire surface of the glass – into the spray bottle. For even a better result, squeeze in a few drops of washing up liquid and mix it up.

Spray the content on both sides of the doors. Let it sit for about 15 to 20 minutes before rising it with water and cleaning it with the sponge. Once done, grab your squeegee and wipe down the water until your glass is dry.

Lemon does a great job, too

clean glass shower doors

You can also use lemon to achieve great results when cleaning.

What you’ll need to shine your glass shower doors:

  • Lemon juice
  • Spray bottle
  • Bathroom (or multipurpose) squeegee

Method:

Pour the lemon juice into the spray bottle and spray the content on both sides of the glass doors. Let it rest for about 10 minutes. Rinse the lemon juice and dry doors using your squeegee vertically.

Try toothpaste as an alternative

Surprisingly toothpaste can also work as a cleaning agent – but ensure it’s the cheapest type as some ingredients can cause harm.

What you’ll need:

  • Toothpaste
  • Sponge
  • Bathroom (or multipurpose) squeegee

Method:

Dampen your sponge with water and squeeze in generous amount of the paste then apply it on the surface of the glass, on both sides.

Once satisfied you removed the grime, rinse with water and dry the glass down using your squeegee.

Apply baking soda to clean your glass doors

tips to remove hardwater from shower doors

If your stains are particularly tough and none of the above methods shine your glass doors to a satisfactory state, try baking soda. Baking soda is great for removing tough stains.

You just need to be careful not to scrub hard as baking soda can lead to scratches.

What you’ll need:

  • Baking soda
  • Sponge
  • Bathroom (or multipurpose) squeegee

Method:

Create a baking soda paste by mixing it with water until you have a running paste. Take the sponge and dip it in the paste and rub it over both sides of the glass.

Wash the paste off with water and dry down with the squeegee.

How to maintain clean glass shower doors

The best way to ensure your glass doors remain clean longer is to squeeze a bit of liquid soap on a sponge or cleaning cloth and wipe and dry it after each shower.

Or just wipe the doors down with a squeegee, so the water doesn’t rest and accumulate overtime.

You can also try eMop’s professional cleaning service

Sometimes letting the professionals do work can achieve the best results. They are experts at what they do and will ensure your shower and glass doors are resort to their brand-new state. Our service is highly affordable and cleaners are professionally trained.

Although we often enjoy cleaning up your mess after the party is over, this year we prefer to help you stay safe by giving your property a deep clean before the party begins this festive season. To contain the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), it’s important to stay clean and a hygienic environment is the best way to go.

Why it’s important to clean your premises for the festive season

With the easing of the lockdown, many of us will celebrate events like Christmas and Halloween this year. However, as people are still catching COVID-19, we have to take the necessary precautions to prevent its spread. So this year the pre-party cleaning becomes more important than the after-party cleanup!

To contain the spread of COVID-19 in large crowds, it is important to follow all government guidelines, including the importance of ensuring one’s environment is properly sanitised. Don’t let poor sanitation ruin the party!

Our recommended areas to prioritise when cleaning

There are certain areas in your home, office or restaurants that should come as the top priority in sanitisation because they are visited or used frequently. These are the areas we recommend you should particularly focus on:

Bathrooms

festive season cleaning

As you can imagine, bathrooms and toilets gather a large amount of viruses and germs. We are likely to pick up germs and bacteria when flushing the toilet, when opening the door and touching other highly touched surfaces.

To ensure your bathroom/toilet is hygienic before your guests arrive, we highly recommend giving your bathroom a deep clean.

Kitchen

We prepare our food in the kitchen and a lot of food preparation will be taking place during the festive season. It is important to ensure kitchen surfaces and appliances are properly cleaned and sanitised. This also goes for all surfaces in bars and restaurants.

Coronaviruses are zoonotic: they are carried from animals to humans. As you are likely to prepare meals containing meat or eggs, it’s highly recommended you sanitise your kitchen using disinfecting sprays and wipes.

Dining area

pre-Christmas cleaning

You will probably spend a lot of time here during the festive season, so it’s important to have it thoroughly sanitised. Clean the dining table and all surfaces that are likely to be used and touched, including the chairs.

Wipe door handles

Door handles are highly touched surfaces and as large crowds gather for parties, they become an easy source of viruses and bacteria transfer. Before the guests arrive, we recommend giving them a thorough clean.

Other precautions to take:

Have a hand sanitiser by the entrance

Prepare for your guests arrival by having a hand sanitiser ready and available near the entrance. This will reduce the chance of them spreading any germs in your home or place of gathering.

Don’t gather in large numbers

As we are still healing from this pandemic, it is best to avoid large gatherings. Try to keep the numbers down. If you are running a business that’s catering to parties, ensure there is enough space for your clients to interact and mingle.

Our top tip: hire professional cleaners

As trained professional cleaners, they know what it takes to ensure your safety! eMop strives to provide the best cleaning service in London. eMop’s cleaners are some of the most sought-after cleaners in London and its surrounding areas. They even come with their own special sanitising products, so you don’t have to go through the hassle of purchasing them yourself.

Book a cleaning session now and get your party off to the right start! Use this discount code to get 15% off your cleaning session: TRICKORTREAT

Discount code is available for use until 31/10/2021

We really cannot stress enough how important it is to leave a rating to indicate your level of satisfaction with your assigned cleaners. The ratings enable us to improve our services where possible and reward our best performing cleaners.

A few reasons to leave rating for cleaners:

To reward your cleaner who has done an excellent job

If your cleaner has done a great work, reward them by giving them a good rating. This makes them happy, knowing you appreciated their work, and it lets us know they are doing a great job!

Ratings help us to improve our services

By letting us know how well our cleaners have performed, you will help to improve the services we offer. By identifying the underperforming cleaners, we can either offer the level of support they need to improve their performance or let them go.

On the other hand, if a cleaner consistently receives a good rating, we reward them for their service.

You are more likely to keep the same cleaner

If you are satisfied, you are more likely to keep the same cleaner. This means you will receive the same cleaning quality every time.

Our cleaners enjoy returning to the properties of loyal clients, knowing their work will always be appreciated.

Good ratings also get us the approval from search engines

Good ratings also help us to rank higher on search engines. This will enable us to reach more clients and leave more homes spotless clean!

If you are satisfied with our cleaning service make sure to leave a good review, so our wonderful cleaners’ hard work can be appreciated by more clients.

If you have never tried our service before, book a cleaner now. We offer a range of services to meet your needs, including same-day booking for urgent cleaning and 24/7 availability.

We spend a lot of time on our mattresses whilst sleeping, in fact around a third of our lives. We sweat on them and shed a lot of dead skin cells during this time. Imagine how much sweating goes on summer nights! Dust mites also gather, which can cause allergies or lead to an increased reaction. Over time, if you do not clean it, you may notice stains and even bad odour on your mattress, which can make its way into your linen.

how to clean a mattress

Good news; cleaning your mattress is actually not a difficult job. We will give you some natural recipes and products you probably already have in your kitchen to effectively clean your mattress. Researchers recommend cleaning your mattress twice a year.

When it comes to stains, they are best removed as quickly as possible. So if you happened to spill tea or coffee on your mattress, act immediately to remove it. The longer stains stay on your mattress, the harder it is to remove them. This is because they get absorbed deep into the fabric.

Here’s eMop’s tips on how to remove dust, dead skin cells, sweat, stains and bad odours from your mattress…

Vacuum the mattress first

To remove solid particles such as dust, hair and debris, it is important to vacuum the mattress first. This will get rid of the first layer of dirt that you want to remove from your mattress. Make sure to use the upholstery vacuum attachment! Also, to save your precious time that can be spent on toher, more important, tasks like friends and family, you can consider using upholstery cleaners in London service.

Clean the mattress with baking soda

cleam mattress with baking soda

Baking soda is one of our favourite cleaning agents. It is natural and pretty likely already in your kitchen. It also does a wonderful job in cleaning a lot of your household items.

What you will need:

  • Baking soda
  • A sieve or a shaker jar/glass
  • Cleaning cloth
  • Brush

Use the sieve/shaker jar to evenly cover the surface of your mattress with the baking soda. Make sure to use enough of it, so the entire surface of the mattress is covered with baking soda.

Ensure the baking soda is absorbed into the mattress by using a hard brush to sink it deep into the fabric. You do not need to aggressively brush; just a gentle rubbing will do the job. Once you are satisfied that the baking soda is evenly distributed and absorbed across your mattress, let it rest for 20 to 30 minutes.

Not only does baking soda remove moisture from the mattress, but it also does a wonderful job in removing bad smells.

Vacuum the mattress again, to remove the baking soda. Once done, it’s time to move to the next step, which will remove stains.

Removing stains

mattress cleaner

What you will need:

  • A bowl
  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Water
  • Washing up liquid
  • Spray bottle
  • Baking soda
  • White microfiber cloth
  • Brush

Fill your bowl with an equal amount of hydrogen peroxide and water. Then add a few drops of the washing up liquid. Stir the mixture and pure it into the spray bottle. If you want to particularly eliminate bad odour, you can add a few drops of your favourite essential oils into the mixture. Then spray the content on your mattress, ensuring the entire surface is covered.

Once again, cover the mattress with baking soda, and this time use a white microfiber cloth to rub it in. Apply more baking soda to the areas that are more stained and dirty. Let the content rest on your mattress for as long as possible. You’ll achieve the best result if you let it rest overnight.

Brush out the baking soda and vacuum your mattress! With this method, you should really be able to see a huge difference, especially if you focus on the hard stained areas of your mattress.

Tips to protect your mattress

The best way to ensure your mattress stays stain-free and odour-free for as long as possible is actually to protect it by using a mattress protector. You can purchase waterproof ones, and there are also some that reduce the risk of allergy reactions.

Regularly – at least once a week – wash your mattress protector and your bed linen to keep your mattress as clean as possible.

Rotating your mattress is another way to avoid dirt gathering at certain areas. Do not flip the mattress over; rotate from head to feet.

If you require general cleaning of your home and household items, such as your carpet, upholstery and oven, please consider eMop’s carpet cleaning services London or our upholstery cleaners in London. Our team has some of the most skilled cleaners in the industry. They can return the sparkle back into your home and your favourite household items. You can hire them here!

From everyday cleaning to treating stains, here’s how to keep your carpet and upholstery in the best condition:

Carpet and upholstery cleaning are just as important as bathroom cleaning. They all gather a huge amount of dust and bacteria that is harmful to our physical health. Frequent vacuuming is essential to keep dust, hair and debris off your carpet. We suggest vacuuming once-a-week to keep it clean! It is even more important to keep to this schedule if you have pets or children as they can bring in a lot of outdoor dirt and dust.

If you are cleaning a rug, after vacuuming it, turn it upside and leave it for a day. A lot more dust and debris will be removed.

Spillages occur and when they do, the best time to treat them is immediately after. Stains are best treated when you remove them before they dry. After they dry it is more difficult as they get absorbed into the fabric.

Make sure you use special cleaning products that do not damage the carpet or make the stains worse. It’s always a good idea to keep a carpet shampoo, so you can quickly remove stains when they occur.

Natural products you can find in your kitchen to clean carpets include white vinegar, baking soda, table salt and milk.

Do not rub stains as they can go deeper into the fabric, rather gently dub them with a white cloth, especially if your carpet is white.

See our earlier blog post here on how to remove stubborn stains like wine.

Our natural tips on how to remove other stains, including grease

What you will need:

  • Potato
  • Cheese grater
  • Brush
  • White cleaning cloth

You can directly grate the potato over the stain or collect in a bowl before placing it over the stained area.

Let the grated potato rest over the stain for an hour. Use a brush, similar to the above image and start scrubbing the stain off. When you can see the stain has come off, remove the potato using the cleaning cloth, until the area is dry. You can also vacuum to remove any remainder of the potato.

How to clean mould on rugs

rug cleaning

Moulds can ruin rugs, especially the ones in moist areas. Remove them as soon as they appear. Here’s a natural cleaning method…

What you’ll need:

  • Vinegar
  • Baking soda
  • Toothpaste
  • A bowl
  • Sponge
  • Gloves

Always wear your gloves when cleaning to keep your hands protected; even if the products you are using are natural.

Create a paste that is large enough to cover the area/s you are treating. Our recommendation for a small surface: pour a cup of vinegar into the bowl, then squeeze in two tablespoons of toothpaste. Add a tablespoon of baking soda and mix your paste. Once done, pour the mixture, using the tablespoon, over the moulded areas of your rug.

Let the paste rest for 15 to 20 minutes, then grab your sponge and start scrubbing away the mould. Your rug should be as good as new!

How to remove smell from carpet

how to clean carpet

Smell can be particularly an issue if you have pets, so it’s important to treat it regularly to keep your home free from bad odours.

Use this simple method to keep your home fresh…

What you’ll need:

  • Baking soda
  • A shaker
  • Essential oil
  • Broom or a large brush

If you can find a shaker in your kitchen it will come handy for this method as it will allow the baking soda to be evenly distributed over the carpet. As baking soda has little fragrance, if you want to add a touch of smell, then your favourite essential oil is perfect. Good deodorizers include lemon, orange and lavender.

Pour the baking soda into the shaker and add a few drops of your essential oil. Mix it, so you the oil is not just sitting at the top. Then shake the mixture over the carpet. Once your carpet is covered, pick up the broom and get the mixture deep into the carpet.

Let the mixture rest on the carpet for as long as you can, then you are ready to vacuum it.

How to clean your upholstery

Your furniture can pick up a lot of dirt and dust over time. The furniture will start to look dull and dirty, and will lose its original condition. To restore it to its original look, we suggest cleaning it regularly and immediately removing stains whenever they appear.

Using baking soda

We love using baking soda recipes for household cleaning because it’s natural, effective and easily found in our kitchens.

What you’ll need:

  • Baking soda
  • Shaker
  • Microfiber cleaning cloth

To treat stains, pour the baking soda into your shaker. Cover the baking soda over the affected areas and let it rest for at least 15 minutes to work its way into the fabric. If you decide to use a cloth, gently dab and not rub hard. Then vacuum your sofa or fabric chair. The baking soda will also remove any odour trapped in the fabric.

Using rubbing alcohol

Upholstery cleaning

You can also effectively clean your upholstery with rubbing alcohol, which is at least 70% alcohol.

What you’ll need:

  • Alcohol
  • Spray bottle
  • Microfiber cloth

Pour the alcohol in the spray bottle and spray the surface you want to treat. It may be the entire couch, or just perhaps where you see stains. Using your microfiber cloth, start rubbing the alcohol on upholstery. Let dry and see the results!

We’re happy to announce details of our latest offer for those living in studios. At eMop, we are committed to making our customers happy. We understand that sometimes in order to achieve customer satisfaction, we have to make alteration to our service. This is why we have introduced our latest cleaning offer: studio cleaning. Studio cleaning saves you up to 20% of the average cleaning costs.

If you’re a studio owner, or you rent one, what can you expect to receive from our latest offer?

2 hours of cleaning

If you own a studio flat, the chances of us spending more than 2 hours at your property is slim, so that is why we’re offering a two-hour cleaning package. With this package, you don’t need to choose a room or specific places in your studio to be cleaned. It is a Two-hour general cleaning of the studio.

Cleaning products are included

Your studio cleaning booking includes the cleaning products. Your cleaner will arrive with his/her cleaning products, so you don’t need to purchase them prior to their arrival. What’s more, our cleaning products are eco-friendly, which means you and the environment are protected from harmful chemicals and substances.

You can add additional services

You can also choose to add additional services such as microwave cleaning, laundry service and for the cleaner to bring equipment like hoover and mop. All add-ons and/or extra time will be charged according to the tariff, which takes into consideration the time and date.

How to book your studio cleaning:

Booking with us is simple: you just go on our platform, choose studio cleaning and let us know if you require any additional services.

We all love clean spaces and places, but we sometimes don’t have the time, or simply hate doing the work to get our home into a clean state. That’s why cleaning service providers like eMop exist. Book an eMopper (our cleaners) now and have your studio cleaned, spotless!

Oven and grill cleaning can often be the most loathsome chores in your kitchen. If you found yourself here, you probably want to find the best way to clean your oven and grill. It’s an enclosed space that majority of us use occasionally, and close. Regular home cleaning services London can also help keep your kitchen appliances in top condition, saving you the hassle of tackling these tasks yourself.

Once the door is closed, we don’t spend much time, if any time, thinking about the dirt we left behind. Unlike our dishes, the oven is a space not meant for cleaning after we’re done eating. This is very much one of our most neglected appliances in the kitchen. For this reason, it becomes the most difficult task on our cleaning schedule, when we eventually decide to clean it.

Here is how to tackle your most dreaded cleaning task; follow this step by step cleaning guide:

Methods to clean your oven

oven and grill cleaning method

How to clean your oven with baking soda and vinegar

This is one of the most preferred natural cleaning methods. The products used to create the recipe are easily found in your kitchen. It is easy to create it and very effective in removing dirt.

What you’ll need:

  • Baking soda
  • White vinegar
  • Bowl
  • Sponge
  • Gloves

To protect your hands, wear cleaning gloves.

Pour a cup or 1.5 cup of baking soda, depending on how grimy your oven is, into the bowl. Add enough white vinegar to create a paste that’s slightly thicker than toothpaste. Before you apply this mixture, brush out any food droppings. Then, dip your sponge into the mixture and coat the interior of your oven, including the door, with the mixture. Apply the paste generously to areas with more grease and build-up.

Pour a cup of vinegar into the bowl – by now you used all the paste, so the bowl should be empty. Dip the sponge in and start scrubbing away the dirt.

If your oven is in a bad condition, with a lot of build-up and difficult to remove grime, we suggest you let the paste rest for overnight before you start scrubbing it off. In this case, as the paste settles hard on the surface, you may want to place your vinegar in a spray bottle and use it to melt the paste. Then start scrubbing. Racks are best washed under the sink as it’s a lot easier to handle them there.

Wipe off the paste with a cloth dipped in hot water, until you remove all traces of the paste. Once you have your oven interior clean, wipe the outside and dry your oven with a clean cloth.

clean oven after cleaning result

Baking soda and lemon

You can also create the above recipe with lemon instead of vinegar. The steps are the same; you just substitute the vinegar for lemon. Lemon and vinegar are both highly acidic, which makes them the best natural cleaning agents.

What you will need:

  • Lemon
  • Baking soda
  • A bowl
  • Sponge
  • Cleaning gloves

Commercial oven cleaning products

If you opt for commercial oven cleaning products, we suggest you take the necessary steps to protect yourself from the harmful chemicals they contain. These include methylene chloride, which can cause harm to the heart, liver, eyes and skin, petroleum distillates, which can irritate the nose, throat, lungs and skin, and other chemicals such as ethylene glycol which can have similar harmful effects.

Strictly follow the cleaning product’s guideline. Make sure you wear gloves, protective eyewear and clothing. Allow plenty of ventilation, before and after the cleaning is done.

Before you start spraying your cleaning agent, lay an old cloth or newspaper down and brush out dried bits of food that collected at the bottom and any build-ups that can be brushed off. Then spray the inside of your oven. Once the entire surface is cover by the spray, let the cleaning product set for 30 minutes before you start scrubbing and wiping it off.

Take out the racks and wipe them under the sink. Once the grease is wiped off, rinse them under tap water and dry them with a clean cloth. Then wipe the interior of the oven, using a cloth soaked in warm, soapy water. Ensure the soapy water is squeezed out, before using the cloth.

Once you completely wipe off the cleaning agent with the water-soaked cloth – this will help to remove some of the chemicals and the smell from your oven – dry it with clean cloth.

How to clean your grill

how to clean grill

This method will work to clean your grill, whether it’s positioned above your oven, often separated (double oven), or it’s a separate appliance. Just like the oven part of your cooker, overtime it will accumulate grease and splatters. As well as bits of food debris and crumbs. Brush these out from the trays and the bottom where they are collected before you begin to clean.

And before you clean, turn your grill on to about 100 C for about 15 minutes. This will loosen up stubborn grease. Let the grill cool down. Then use one of the above suggested methods of cleaning.

For the baking soda method, use 1 cup of baking soda – as your grill is much smaller than the oven – to create the paste. Rub this paste all over the inside of the grill, including the racks. You can start scrubbing it off with vinegar immediately or let rest for a few hours before spraying in vinegar and wiping of the dirt.

Then follow steps in the previous methods to rinse it and wipe it dry.

Cleaning your grill with hot water and washing up liquid

If your grill is not too greasy or dirty, you can just use hot water and washing up liquid to easily clean it.

What you will need:

  • Hot water
  • Bowl
  • Washing up liquid
  • Sponge
  • And, of course, your cleaning gloves

Get a bowl and pour hot kettle water, and then squeeze in some washing up liquid. Then grab a sponge, dip it in the water and start scrubbing the inside. It is better to take out the racks and scrub them under the sink.

How often should you clean your oven and grill?

You give your oven and grill a regular cleaning, once every couple of weeks, or at least once a month, you will avoid the need for hard scrubbing. If after cooking you see food splattered everywhere, wipe it off once your oven cools down. If you let it stay on, it will get cooked on the next time you use the oven or grill and it will produce a burning smell. It will also be a lot more difficult to remove it.

To maintain a clean oven and grill, and to avoid the loathsome job of cleaning a super grimy oven, it’s best to give it a regular cleaning at least once a month and whenever you notice a spillage/splatter.

If oven/grill cleaning is the worst chore, then get professionals to do it

We understand how frustrating it can be to spend hours cleaning an oven or grill. But what if there are professionals who do this regularly – and learnt all the tricks – and can handle this difficult task without a sweat?

Our eMoppers (aka cleaners) are these professionals. We have recently added this service to the cleaning they can provide in your home after we tested their skills. And they’re pretty amazing. Hire them to battle your grime and grease!

We even have a discount code that saves you £5 when you book. Here’s the code you need to use: OVENGRILL5. It’s valid until 22/01/2021.
